The aim of the course is to introduce students to some major works of English literature from its earliest beginnings to the end of the sixteenth century. The course is taught through lectures and seminars and self-study; the lectures are prepared in order to offer a general social and cultural context for the course texts. The seminars should involve students in close reading and literary analysis of individual works.
