Hello everyone, there is no observation sheet here, but we all remember the lovely lesson on the Magical Walpurgis Night by Maruška and Nicole, so we can still discuss the method. I'm going to kick it off by throwing in a few keywords. Let me know if you have different ones.
content aim (subject content) + language aim
comprehension
negotiation of meaning
tolerating uncertainty along the path of learning
dialogic talk
scaffolding
If I had an observation sheet, the only 'unticked' area would probably be corrective feedback because people were hardly making any mistakes, so Maruška and Nicole didn't really have much to correct.
What would probably be highlighted in the observation sheet would be the cultural aspect. One of the aims in CLIL is to develop intercultural communicative skills, so the aim 'to be able to speak about Czech customs in English' is perfect. As I said in class, trying to explain our culture to a foreigner increases our awareness of what it actually is. Moreover, the lesson allowed the students to compare the Czech version of the custom with traditions in other countries.
Let me know of your additional thoughts based on your observations sheets.
I look forward to your comments:)
