Biopower, Biopolitics and the Changing Discourses of Biological Differences
Section outline
-
The goal of the course is to critically reflect the (bio)medical discourses on body, health and ʽnormalityʾ. The course explores how the representations of sex, gender, race, ethnicity and sexuality are constructed in those discourses and how are they reflected in the practice of medicine as social institution. The aim of the course is to critically evaluate the relationship between techniques of (bio)power and scientific knowledge concerning body and health and how those knowledge help to reproduce or deconstruct various forms of inequalities.
