The course aims to provide a view of the development of the major policy issues in the Czech Republic in historical perspective with particular focus on the shifting conceptions of welfare state and the relationship between state and individuals. Key conceptual frameworks, factors and indicators influencing formulation of social policies in global and local context are critically discussed. The course addresses selected key debates in contemporary Czech social policy (with particular focus on family policies) as well as case studies from other countries.
