      Don't insist on English

    • During the lesson which took place on Monday 11-10-2021 we did the following:

      1) Pair Work - discussing two questions:

      - How important is English?

      - Can you see any negative side?

      2) We watched a presentation from TedTalks by Patricia Ryan: Don't insist on English! (find the link below) which was followed with a discussion - impressions, opinions, arguments for or against the ideas mentioned in the presentation

      3) We did a listening task - true x false, sentence completion questions (for handout see below)

      4) We checked the answers

      -------

      HOMEWORK, due on Monday 25-10-2021

      1) Find 10 words in the tapescript (for the pdf file of the tapescript see below) that you find intersting, are new for you and you think it would be good to learn these. Prepare proper dictionary entries - this means you need to include the word itself, its pronunciation, definition(s), example sentence(s) (for each definition at least one), and if you find it necessary, you can also include the translation. For inspiration go to e.g. Cambridge Dictionary (for the link see below)

      2) Upload the file with your words and the dictionary entries in the assignement (see below)

      3) Look at the four suggested questions for discussion in the speaking lesson and think about your answers, opinions, also the reasons for your particular answers, opinions. (for the handout with questions see below)

      IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

The lesson on Monday 18-10-2021 CANNOT take place due to closure of the building for construction reasons. There are some students who would not be able to take part in Zoom session, we have agreed today that for that particular week I will prepare a listening lesson to Moodle and you can work on it by yourselves.

On Monday 25-10-2021 we will have a speaking lesson at the faculty and we will discuss the topic: by Patricia Ryan: Don't insist on English!
