Task: Complete a short diagnostic grammar and vocabulary self-assessment. Identify two areas you find most challenging and write a brief reflection (100–150 words) on why you think these areas are difficult for you.

Levels or Stages of Word Knowledge
Task: Read a short article or watch a video explaining the different stages of word knowledge (e.g., form, meaning, use). List and briefly define each stage in your own words.

Week 4 (24 October 2025)
ELT materials_claims, critiques and controversies
Task: Choose a page from a coursebook or an online ELT resource. Identify one claim (explicit or implicit) the material makes about language learning and write a brief critique (50–100 words).

Week 5 (31 October 2025)
Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
Task: Visit the official CEFR website or read a summary. Identify and summarize the main language proficiency levels (A1–C2) and write one example of what a learner can do at each level.
Go through CEFR and observe which sections and chapters it has and how they are organized.

Week 6 (7 November 2025)
Identity
Task: Reflect on your own language learning experience. Write a short paragraph about how learning English (or another language) has influenced your sense of identity or cultural perspective.

Week 7 (14 November 2025)
English as a Lingua Franca
Task: Watch a short video or read a brief article on English as a global language. Write a paragraph (100–150 words) summarizing one benefit and one challenge of English as a Lingua Franca.

Task: Read a short opinion piece or blog post on native-speakerism in ELT. Note down two arguments for and two against the preference for native English teachers.

Linguistic Imperialism
Task: Take some time to think about the concept and the broader issues it involves. Consider questions such as:
What does "linguistic imperialism" mean to you?
How might the dominance of one language impact other languages and cultures?
Can you find brief examples or basic information on linguistic imperialism or related topics through quick research online or from prior knowledge?
What are the possible social, political, and educational consequences of linguistic imperialism?

Week 11 (12 December 2025)
Language and culture in ELT
Task: Find and bring to class one example (a phrase, idiom, or custom) where language and culture are closely linked. Write a few sentences explaining its cultural significance.

Week 12 (19 December 2025)
Values in the ELT classroom
Task: Read a brief article or watch a video about values in education. Write a short reflection on one value you believe is important in language teaching and why.

Week 13 (9 January 2026)
Digital Literacies and Technology in English Language Education
Task: Has AI changed the world of language learning? Should it? What changes have happened so far? What changes do you envisage?
