Directions: Read pages 1-7 (only the top paragraph on p. 7) from Instructional Design by Smith & Ragan. The chapter can be found in Moodle in the Week 1 module. Respond to the following five questions with at least 2-3 sentences for each question. This is an individual assignment.

Deliverable: Submit your written response as a Word document or a Google Document within the Assignment area in Moodle. Your response will be due Thursday, February 27 by the beginning of class. This assignment is worth 5 points.

1. In your own words explain what instructional design means according to Smith and Ragan.

2. According to Smith & Ragan, how is instruction different from education, training, and teaching?

3. Answer the following Instructional Design process questions for yourself. You may answer these questions however you like - thinking about yourself as a student, a person, etc...:

   1. Where are you going? 

   2. How will you get there? 

   3. How will you know when you have arrived?

4. Answer the following Instructional Design process questions in terms of what you hope to learn in this class.

5. Think of a tutorial you have used. Think of what a learning outcome could be for that tutorial. Answer the following Instructional Design process questions based on that learning outcome. 

   1. What tutorial are you thinking of? What is the tutorial’s learning outcome? (i.e., “Where are you going” with this tutorial?) 

   2. How is the tutorial designed to teach that learning outcome? (i.e., How will this tutorial get you there?) 

   3. How does (or doesn't) the tutorial require you to demonstrate what you’ve learned? (How will you know when you have arrived at the potential learning outcome for this tutorial)?
