Internal Medicine – Geriatrics
English Paralel 5th year
Dear student colleagues,
welcome in our Department of Geriatrics. Here is some information for you.
We have considered carefully some form of hybrid – distant and in-person training. However, due to the persistence of COVID pandemy in Czech Republic and high risk of COVID community transmission there is serious risk for frail geriatric patients hospitalized in our department. Therefore we decided to conduct the training remotely. We have prepared training materials for each day of the rotation which are available in Moodle for you after you sign in for the course (Internal Medicine – Geriatrics). The materials consist of presentations, obligatory and elective readings, clinical skills and tools for assessing geriatric syndromes and comprehensive assessment of mental, somatic and functional status. Feel free to look for additional resources - professional scientific journals Age and Ageing, European Geriatric Medicine, Clinical Interventions in Aging, Drugs and Aging … or other resources from websites of British or American Geriatric Societies and geriatric societies in you countries of residence.
We plan to have obligatory online classes - seminars using MS Team Monday to Friday 10.00 – 11.30 a.m. and on Friday there will be a group discussion for credit.
We will be able to offer limited clinical skills training in the afternoon for smaller groups of 3-4 students under strict hygiene condition wearing PPD (respirator).
These classes will be elective and will take place in our Department of Geriatrics, Londynska 15, Prague 2. Please bring your ID, stethoscope and white coat. Please, contact Assist. Professor MUDr. Simona Vrablova by email that you are interested. She will organize the groups and will get back to you when the epidemiological situation allows.
Below you find your classes schedule for geriatric module for the winter semester.
With best regards
prof. Eva Topinková, MD, PhD
