Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670) was a Czech-speaking Moravian teacher, writer and social reformer. Comenius also served as the last bishop of the Unity of the Brethren and became a religious refugee living in exile for many years due to the Thirty Years war that ravaged Europe during his lifetime.
The course will introduce students to the extraordinary life and work of one of the earliest champions of universal education and an educational pioneer whose pedagogical ideas continue to influence teaching and learning today.
The course will be of interest to students studying a broad range of humanities subjects.
