Introductory Video and Presentation with Comments

This week we are going to deal with the final unit of our textbook - Navigate Pre-intermediate B1 - Unit 12. The topic of the unit is Work.

As always this section starts with the introductory video and video script. However, try to watch the video at least once without the text. Take the text later and even if you think that you understand, watch the video with the text to make sure you really do.

The grammar issues in this unit are present perfect simple with for and since and uses of the infinitive with to. The introductory presentation is, therefore, devided into two parts - the first one intruducec the present perfect simple with for and since and the other one introduces the uses of the infinitive. In the following section with exercises, there are two exercises, one focusing on the present perfect and the other one on the infinitive. It is up to you if you want to watch the presentations first and than take the exercises, or watch one presentation and then take the relevant exercise, then watch the second presentation and take the second exrecise.

As usual during the presentations there are some tasks during the explanation for you to complete and some practice so the final time of your watching can be longer than the presentation itself. Prepare the material for printing so that you can work and take notes.

Tento týden se budeme zabývat poslední lekcí z něší učebnice - Navigate Pre-intermediate B1 - Lekce 12. Tématem lekce je Práce.

Jako vždy tato sekce začíná úvodním videem, ke kterému máte k dipozici přepis. Nicméně pokuste se podívat na video alespoň jednou bez přepisu. Text k videu si vezměte později a i když si myslíte, že rozumíte, podívejte se alespoň jednou spolu s textem, abyste se přesvědčili, že opravdu rozumíte.

Gramatické jevy v této lekci jsou předpřítomný prostý čas s předložkami for a since a použití infinitivu s to. Úvodní prezentace je proto rozdělena na dvě části - první představuje předpřítomný čas s předložkami for a since a druhá představujet použití infinitivu s to. V následující sekci jsou dvě cvičení, první procvičuje předpřítomný čas a druhé infinitiv. Záleží na vás, jak chcete postupovat. Zda se podíváte nejdříve na obě prezentace a poté si oba gramatické jevy procvičíte ve cvičeních, nebo zda se podíváte na první prezentaci a hned půjdete procvičovat dané cvičení, poté se vrátíte ke druhé prezentaci a opět znovu hned procvičíte.

Jako obvykle budete v prezentacích během vysvětlení daného gramatického jevu vyzváni k úkolům a poté se v prezentaci objeví již procvičování, takže si připravte materiál k tisku, abyste mohli pracovat a dělat si poznámky.

Exercises - Unit 12

There are 2 exercises:

Exercise 1 - present perfect simple with for and since
Exercise 2 - uses of infinitive with to

There are more tasks in both of the exercises  (3 in each), there is a time limit so make sure you have enough time before you start completing the exercise. You have got two attempts for each and you need to get at least 60% of correct answers. For more details see the individual exercises.

V každém cvičení je více úkolů (v každém 3), je nastaven časový limit, tak se ujistěte, že máte dostatek času před tím, než začnete cvičení vypracovávat. Na každé máte dva pokusy a je třeba získat alespoň 60 % správných odpovědí. Podrobnější informace viz jednotlivá cvičení.

In this vocabulary section you can find out three subsections, two overlap each other - jobs, professions, workplace and job responsibilites, and finally - phrases with in. Simply follow the instructions, look at and learn the particular vocabulary for a particular part, watch videos and complete the tasks which relate to them and finally compete the exercises. Again, do not forget that your main goal here is to broaden your vocabulary.

V této sekci se slvní zásobou najdete tři podsekce, dvě se překrývají - jobs, professions, workplace and job responsibilities, a na závěr - fráze s předložkou in. Jednoduše postupujte dle instrukcí, podívejte se a naučte se danou slovní zásobu k určité části, sledujte videa a vypracovávejte úkoly, které se na videa váží a na závěr vypracujte cvičení. Opět, nezapomínejte, že vaším hlavním cílem je si rozšířit svou slovní zásobu.

Than take the Exercises 3 and 4 (see below). There are no time limits but you need to get at least 60% of correct answers.

Nejprve se podívejte do slovníčku (viz odkaz) a naučte se slovíčka, která neznáte.

Poté si udělejte cvičení 3 a 4 (viz níže). Nejsou nastaveny časové limity, ale je třeba získat alespoň 60 % správných odpovědí.

Now, let's practise the vocabulary with help of YouTube videos. 
There are two videos.

1) A YouTube video on jobs: Jobs and Occupations Vocabulary with sentences - What do they do? - Before watching it, open the Handout and try to complete the list of differnet jobs and occupations in Czech with English words. Then check with the dictionary. (see the links below)

2) A YouTube video on vocabulary/phrases you shouldn't and more imporantly should use at work. Try to watch, repeat when you are asked to and then go to the dictionary to check the vocabulary. (see the links below)

Nyní si procvičíme slovní zásobu s pomocí videí na YouTube.
Máte zde dvě videa.

1) Video na YouTube ke slovní zásobě povolání: Jobs and Occupatinos Vocabulary with sentences - What do they do? - Před tím, než si video pustíte, otevřete si Handout a pokuste se doplnit do seznamu povolání v češtině anglické překlady. Poté si slovní zásobu zkontrolujte ve slovníčku. (viz odkazy níže).

2) Video na YouTube ke slovní zásobě/frázím, které byste neměli a naopak které byste měli používat v zaměstnání. Nejprve se podívejte na video, opakujte fráze a věty, když k tomu budete vyzváni, a poté si slovní zásobu zkontrolujte ve slovníčku. (viz. odkazy níže)

There is only one Exercise 5 with 4 tasks, including some listening. Before you go through the exercise, have a look at the dictionary and learn the words you do not know. There is no time limit but you need to get at least 60% of correct answers.

V této části je jen jedno Cvičení 5 se 4 úkoly, včetně dalšího poslechu. Před tím, než se pustíte do cvičení, se podívejte do slovníčku a naučte se ta slovíčka, která ještě neznáte. U cvičení není nastaven časový limit, ale je třeba získat alespoň 60 % správných odpovědí.

In this subsection you find one Exercise 6 focusing on the vocabulary presented in the coursebook Navigate B1. The exercise is again a mixture of some explanation and some practice. While completing the exercise, simply follow the instructions as usual. There is no time limit, but you need to get at least 60% of correct answers.

Another part of this subsection is some extra vocabulary - fixed phrases or rather idioms with in (and on). There is a link to a YouTube video - presentation on idioms with in and on - 15 spoken English phrases with IN and ON (Espresso English) and then there is a link to their (Espresso English) website with the same idioms in written form. Finally you are provided with the link to the Dictionary where you can find those 15 phrases.

Let's start, however, the subsection with some information on what an idiom is.

V této podsekci naleznete jedno Cvičení 6, které se zaměřuje na slovní zásobu, která je představena v učebnici Navigate B1. Cičení je opět kompilací vysvětlení a procvičení dané slovní zásoby. Během vypracování cvíčení se řiďte instrukcemi jako obvykle. Není nastaven časový limit, ale je třeba zístak alespoň 60 % správných odpovědí.

Další částí této podsekce je slovní zásoba navíc - jedná se o ustálená slovní spojení, nebo spíše idiomy s předložkou in (a on). Máte zde odkaz na video na YouTube - jedná se o prezetnaci o idiomech s předložkami in a on - 15 spoken English phrases with IN and ON (Espresso English) a také zde máte odkaz na jejich (Espresso English) stránky s těmi samými idiomy, ale v psané formě. Nakonec zde máte odkaz na slovníček, kde najdete těchto 15 frází.

Začněme ale tuto podsekci s trochou informací ohledně otázky co to je idiom.

Advice and Tips - understanding linkers for surprising information

Linkers are an important part of the language because they help the reader or listener to understand the organization of the text, speech, they comment the relations between ideas, words, sentences, messages. Therefore, it is necessary to know them, use them and understand them. In the following Exercise 7 we have linkers we use when part of the information suprises us. The exercise starts with some explanation (listening and reading), which is then followed with a little practice.

Spojovací výrazy jsou důležitou součástí jazyka, protože pomáhají čtenáři či posluchači rozumět organizaci textu, řeči, komentují vztahy mezi myšlenkami, slovy, větami, sděleními. Proto je opravdu nutné tyto spojovací výrazy znát, používat je a rozumět jim. V následujícím Cvičení 7 máme spojovací výrazy, které používáme, když máme část informace, která je překvapivá. Cvičení začíná vysvětlením (poslech a čtení) a poté pokračuje troškou procvičování.

University Life - A Curriculum Vitae (CV)

This is a writing practice. Your task this time will be to work with sample CVs from the book (Exercise 8 - sample CVs) and then to prepare your own CV (brief) (Exercise 9- your own CV) and upload it back here.

There is also a link to the website europa.eu where you can find really good tips for a good CV and also you can create your CV there (this is rather for the future, you do not need to use it now). Another good thing with this website is that there are a lot of language options as it is created for Europe. The link, however, is to the English version.

Toto je opět procvičování psaní. Vaším úkolem tentokrát bude pracovat s ukázkami strukturovaných životopisů z učebnice (Cvičení 8) a poté připravit svůj vlastní strukturovaný životopis (stručný) (Cvičení 9) a náhrát ho sem zpět.

Také zde máte odkaz na webovou stránku europa.eu, kde zalezente opravdu dobré tipy, jak napsat dobrý strukturovaný životopis, a také si na těchto stránkách můžete životopis vytvořit (což je spíše do budoucnosti, nyní nemusíte tvořit CV přes tyto stránky). Další dobrou věcí je, že tato stránka má mnoho jazykových mutací, protože je vytvořena pro Evropu. Odkaz, který máte k dispozici, je ale na verzi anglickou.
