Introductory Video and Presentation with Comments

This week, week 7, brings unit 8.

As always watch the introductory video: The secrets of successful education with focus on expressions used when we need to express ability, obligation, necessity and permission. If you need to, you can open the video script that can help you with understanding. Try, however, at least the first listening without the video script.

After you have watched the video at least once, procede to the presenation. It takes about 43 minutes and presents explanation as well as a bit of practice. When you are asked to complete some tasks, try to do it on your own, try not to cheat. At those times of practice or tasks you are asked to stop the video. Please do so and take as much time as you need for you to complete the tasks and then continue to look at the answers or solutions. The presentation, according to how much time you need individually, can take, therefore, longer. And of course, do not forget to prepare the printed materials so that you can take notes and complete the tasks.

Jako vždy se podívejte na úvodní video: The secrets of successful education se zaměřením na výrazy, které používáme, když potřebujeme vyjádřit ability, obligation, necessity a permission. Pokud budete potřebovat pomoc s porozuměním, otevřete si přepis videa. Zkuste alespoň první poslech (sledování) bez přepisu.

Poté, co jste shlédli video alespoň jednou, přejděte k prezentaci. Trvá přibližně 43 minut a přináší vysvětlení a i trošku procvičování. Ve chvíli, kdy jste požádáni, abyste vyplnili nějaké úkoly, zkuste je udělat samostatně, snažte se nepodvádět. Při procvičováni si máte video zastavovat. Prosím, učiňte tak a dopřejte si tolik času, kolik potřebujete na vyplnění úkolu a teprve poté pokračujte videem a podívejte se na řešení. Prezentace, podle toho, kolik času individuálně budete potřebovat, může proto trvat déle. A samozřejmě si nezapomeňte připravit tištěné materiály, abyste si mohli dělat poznámky a vyplňovat úkoly.

There are two exercises in this section - one on ability and one on obligation, necessity and permission.

There is one exercise - Exercise 6 - Vocabulary: make x do which will, in several tasks, lead you through the issue of when to use make and when do. It is a mixture of differnet tasks and there is also a short listening. In the end you also need to learn these collocations with these two verbs.

Máte zde jedno cvičení - Exercise 6 - Vocabulary: make x do, které vás, v několika úkolech, provede skrze problematiku toho, kdy použít sloveso make a kdy do. Jedná se o mix různých úkolů, je tam i krátký poslech. Nakonec se naučte kolokace k těmto dvěma slovesům.

There is one exercise - Exercise 7 - Vocabulary: asking for clarification. In this exercise you will learn a few useful phrases for conversations.

Máte zde jedno cvičení - Exercise 7 - Vocabulary: asking for clarification. V tomto cvičení se naučíte několik užitečných frází pro konverzace.

Advice and Tips - understanding connected speech

Here you have a bit of practice of so called English linking - connected speech. Because it is not something you could learn quickly the practice is within a video (presenation) as you are used to from the introductory presentations. Therefore, print the handout so that you can complete the tasks you will be asked to during the video (presentation) and then play the video, stop it or play it again whenever you need. The video is, due to its size, divided into two parts. Try not to cheat. There is also an audio script for on of the exercises.

Zde naleznete trošku procvičování tzv. anclického vázání - spojené řeči. Protže toto není něco, co by se dalo naučit rychle, procvičování je v rámci videa (prezentace) tak, jak jste již zvyklí z úvodních prezentací. Proto si vytiskněte pracovní listy, abyste mohli vypracovávaat úkoly, ke kterým budete vyzváni v průběhu videa (prezentace), poté si pusťe video, zastavujte si ho, přehrávejte znovu, pokud to budete potřebovat. Video je, z důvodu velikosti, rozděleno na dvě části. Pokuste se nepodvádět. Také zde naleznete přepis poslechu jednoho ze cvičení.

University Life - writing - completing a form + checking your writing

The activity in the week's university life is about completing forms. There are only a few tasks for you to complete.

1) Exercise 8 - University Life - completing a form - vocabulary

2) Exercise 9 - University Life - completing a form - listening (correct the mistakes)

In Exercise 8 we focus on vocabulary that appears in the forms. Exercise 9 is sort of a writing assignment and also listening. You will need to print one of the sample forms from the coursebook, listen to a recording and correct the mistakes in the form, and then upload the scan (or photo) onto the Moodle.

Aktivita v sekci university life v tomto týdnu je zaměřena na vyplňování formulářů. Máte zde jen několik málo úkolů.

Ve cvičení 8 se zaměřujeme na slovní zásobu, která se objevuje ve formulářích. Cvičení 9 je svým způsobem psací úkol a také poslech. Vytisknete si jeden vzorový formulář z učebnice, poslechnete si nahrávku a opravíte chyby ve formuláři, a poté nahrajete sken (nebo fotografii) zpět do Moodlu.

However, bear in mind that you will be working online which can complicate the work with e-version of the copy.
