Introductory Video and Presentation with Comments

From now on, every week will include only one unit from our book Navigate B1 Pre-intermediate. This week's unit is unit 5.

As always watch the introduction video - In the library (if necessary, look at the tapescript - but again, try to watch at least once without the help of the tapescript). Then watch and study the presentation - grammar in this week are articles and so called quantifiers (+countable and uncountable nouns), if necessary have a look at the Grammar Guidebook (see the links).

After you study properly the materials in this section, you can procede to the exercises.

Od tohoto týdne bude obsahem každého týdne jen jedna lekce z naší učebnice Navigate B1 Pre-intermediate. Lekce v tomto týdnu je lekce 5.

Jako vždy se podívejte na úvodní video - V knihovně (pokud nebudete úplně všemu rozumět, můžete se podívat na tapescript - přesto se zkuste podívat alespoň jednou bez pomoci přepisu). Poté se podívejte a prostudujte si prezentaci - gramatika v tomto týdnu se zabývá členy a tzv. quantifiers (kvantifikátory - slova s významem množství) + počitatelná a nepočitatelná podstatná jména, pokud bude třeba podívejte se do gramatické příručky (viz odkazy).

Poté, co si řádně prostudujete materiály v této sekci, můžete přejít ke cvičením.

This week's presentation focuses on Unit 5 from our textbook and it introduces articles and quantifiers (+countable and uncountable nouns). Make sure that you prepare the materials to print before you start the presentation as there are some exercises for you so that you can work.

Prezentace tohoto týdne je zaměřena na lekci 5 z naší učebnice a představuje gramatiku - členy a tzv. kvantifikátory (+počitatelná a nepočitatelná podstatná jména). Před tím, než si prezentaci pustíte, se ujistěte, že máte připravené materiály k tisku, protože během prezentace na vás čekají i cvičení, tak abyste mohli pracovat.

Exercises B1 - Unit 5

There are two exercises - Exercise 1 practises articles (3 tasks) and Exercise 2 quantifiers (4 tasks). Both should be quite quick. The practice in this section is not so long, because there is already some pracise during the introductiory presentation.

V této sekci jsou dvě cvičení - Exercise 1 procvičuje členy (3 úkoly) a Exercise 2 procvičeje kvantifikátory (4 úkoly). Obě cvičení jsou vcelku krátká. Procvičování v této sekci není tak dlouhé, protože již nějaké úkoly se plní v průběhu úvodní prezentace.

For the first subsection - Adjectives for describing objects - take the Exercise 3 - Vocabulary - Adjectives for describing objects. There is no time limit, so you have got enough time to look up the words you might not know.

V první podsekci - Přídavná jména popisující předměty - si vypracujte cvičení 3. U tohoto cvičení není nastaven časový limit, takže budete mít dostatek času pro případné vyhledávání slovíček, které možná nebudete znát.

For the second subsection - Money - open the vocabulary Money handout and watch the YouTube video - How to speak about money in English. Try to complete the handout with your notes on pronunciation and try to translate (or guess the meanings of) the words/phrases introduced in the video. You can also go to the Dictionary (see the link). However, try without any help before looking the unknown words up.

U druhé podsekce - Peníze - si otevřete Money handout a podívejte se na video na YouTube - How to speak about money in English. Zkuste si v handoutu doplnit poznámky k výslovnosti a pokuste se slova/fráze z videa přeložit (nebo alespoň odhadnout jejich význam). Také můžete využít slovníčku (viz odkaz). Nicméně nejprve zkuste pracovat s handoutem a videem bez pomoci.

The third subsection - understanding linkers for reason and result - focuses on a few linkers we can use to express the reason and result. There is (in Exercise 4 - Vocabulary - understanding linkers for reason and result) an audio recording with some explanation (English and Czech) with a material from our coursebook (Navigate B1 Pre-intermediate) Unlock the Code - linkers for reason and result to support the explanation. A very short exercise follows.

Třetí podsekce - porozumění spojovacím výrazům vyjadřujícím důvod a důsledek - se zaměřuje na několik spojovacích výrazů (tzv. linkers), které můžeme využít k tomu, abychom vyjádřili důvod a následek. Naleznete zde (ve cvičení 4) audionahrávku s vysvětelním (v anglickém a českém jazyce) plus materiál z naší učebnice (Navigate B1 Pre-intermediate) Unlcok the Code - linkers for reason and result, který výklad z audionahrávky podpoří. Následuje velmi krátké cvičení.

Final subsection - suffixes - looks into why it is important to know how to make words with suffixes and practises some common ones for nouns and adjectives.

Závěrečná podsekce - předpony - se snaží zjistit, proč je důležité vědět, jak se tvoří slova pomocí přípon, a procvičuje některé běžné přípony pro podstatná a přídavná jména.

Advice and Tips - How to explain words you don't know

This time Advice and Tips bring a useful activity which practises some phrases you can use when you do not know how to say something. It is quite necessary to improve this skill because not every time (or it can happen) that you do not have a dictionary (or mobile phone) with you.

Tentokrát Rady a Tipy přinášejí užitečnou aktivitu, která procvičuje několik frází, které můžte využít ve chvíli, kdy nebudete vědět, jak se něco řekne. Je vcelku důležité zlepošovat si tuto dovednost, protože ne vždy (nebo se to může stát) máte s sebou slovník (nebo mobilní telefon).

University Life - Writing an email 3: returning an online product + commas

The last part of this week - University Life - is again about writing an email - this time the topic is "Returning an online product" and the focus is on writing commas. Look at the Exercise 7 - Email 3: returning an online product. There are sample emails with a simple task to complete, and then there is a Language for writing box - commas with and audio recording. Read and listen to these materials and then proceed to Exercise 8 - Writing Assignment - Email 3: returning an online product.

Poslední část tohoto týdne - University Life - je opět o psaní emailu - tentokrát je tématem "Vrácení zboží online" a zaměřuje se na psaní čárek. Podívejte se na cvičení 7 - Email 3: returning an online product. Naleznete v něm ukázky emailů s jednoduchým úkolem a poté zde máte Language for writing box - commas s audionahrávkou. Přečtěte a poslechněte si tato materiály a poté přejděte ke cvičení 8 - Úkol psaní - Email 3 - returning an online product.

For the online consultation hours prepare the following materials. You can either print them, if you prefer working with paper version, or if you feel fine with the electronic version, you do not need to print. However, bear in mind that you will be working online which can complicate the work with e-version of the copy.

Buď si je můžete vytisknout, pokud se vám lépe pracuje s papírovou verzí, nebo pokud se cítíte jistí v práci s elektronickou verzí, tisknout nemusíte.
