This course will cover the subject of political culture and related concepts such as civic culture and civil society. The seminar will introduces current and previous research on political culture, in particular the classic study "Civic Culture" by Gabriel Almond and Sidney Verba, the Ronald Inglehart´s concept of the "Silent Revolution" and the Robert Putnam´s work about the importance of trust, social capital and interpersonal ties for democracy. The relationship between political culture and religion, political socialization, type of regime and economy will also be explored. We will pay attention to the current issues of political culture and discuss news articles. The seminar also offers a brief summary of Czech political scene. The course programme can also be adapted to the students´ individual needs and interests.
