The subject “Medieval Philosophy B” is a complementary course to the subject “Medieval Philosophy A”, it is closely linked with it in terms of content and students complete both parts simultaneously (in the same semester). It is focused on intensive analysis of primary texts. The course will focus on Aquinas, Scotus, and Ockham.
Teaching methods:
Students are expected to have read the material (which you will find in the folder Primary Texts) before the class. The teacher will lecture each class and lead discussion. Each class will be focused on close analysis and discussion of the texts
Course requirements:
The course completion is based on the questions on the three main authors (Aquinas, Scotus, Ockham), which will be uploaded on Moodle. It will suffice to respond correctly to 2 of the 3 questionnaires to complete the course and get credits (pass/fail). You can work on the questions at home and we will discuss them in class before the end of the course. However, you must submit your answers before the end of the semester, otherwise you cannot be evaluated.
The deadline for the submission of the answers to the questionnaires is January 15th, but you can send me the materials ahead if you prefer. The answers can be submitted in English or Czech. You cannot use ChatGPT, and your answers should display a good level of engagement with the materials of the course.
Important: if you don't take and pass the course, you cannot take the final exam.
Attendance, it is not mandatory - but I strongly encourage you join. If you deciced not to attend the course, you still must submit the questionnaires, otherwise you will fail the course and you won't be able to take the final oral exam.
If you attend the course, it is all the more likely you will pass the tests.
