Now they've blown it https://edition.cnn.com/2020/10/19/europe/czech-republic-coronavirus-intl/index.html 14:06:28 From Sára Štěpánová to Pamela Danielle Cotte(Privately) : I have a question related to pronunciation: I learn british English at school but I have seen so many movies and series, where american English was spoken, and now I am using a mix of both and I feel stupid. What should I do to improve in differentiating between the two and not mixing them together, mostly in spoken language? Do you have any advice? Thank you. :D 14:07:47 From Pamela Danielle Cotte to Sára Štěpánová(Privately) : I can see how this can be tricky. I lived in Scotland 6 years and even as a native speaker I started to get confused about what was the British and what was the American pronunciation. 14:12:10 From Pamela Danielle Cotte to Sára Štěpánová(Privately) : First I would not get overly worried about this. In practice internationally both are used fairly interchangeably. The Oxford and Cambridge online dictionaries clearly distinguish between British and US spelling and usage so you could look up words and expressions there when you are not sure. I will try to think of other ideas. Another thing would be to listen regularly to a British broadcast (e.g. the BBC, a TV series etc) and tune into the language used to remind you what is the correct British pronunciation and usage. 14:12:44 From Pamela Danielle Cotte to Sára Štěpánová(Privately) : 17 Oct 2020 Brexit update https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-54566897 Café Evropa online: Brexit – jak vypadá budoucnost vztahů s Velkou Británií? https://www.facebook.com/events/344614190092054?utm_campaign=cafe_evropa_regio&utm_source=emailchef&utm_medium=email&utm_term=campaign What Planet Are We On? ...with Liz Bonnin Offering solutions and practical tips as well as hearing from experts, campaigners and well-known names. I think it would be interesting to find out whether the model presented in the article could be applied to other post-communist countries like Hungary or Slovakia.
