4.6 Will you need Informed Consent for the Research Within your Thesis?
Completion requirements
In most cases, getting consent from any participants is a necessary part of conducting research involving humans ethically. You do not need informed consent in the following cases:
- Use of anonymous datasets does not require consent.
- An observational study in a completely public environment might not require consent, too, but researchers have to prove that their study would in no way alter the usual behaviour of those studied and that their privacy would be respected.
- Covert observations should only proceed if there is a clear benefit of the research and simultaneously when no other research approach seems possible and simultaneously when it is reasonably certain that no one will be harmed or suffer as a result of the research.
Based on this information and on information from previous activities, will you need the informed consent for the research within your thesis?
