Assignments: (1) Respond to articles: What is the role of music for nationalism (list 3 aspects)? What are the two types of musical nationalism discussed in Turino (give one example for each)? How are they related to indigenous music styles? For discussion: be prepared to discuss terms: nation, state, cultural nationalism, musical nationalism, and cosmopolitanism vs localism. (2) Submit final topic of your paper (title, short description, and full bibliography). Submit in word document.
