  • Language and the failure of being

    This session we will discuss the role of language in Freudian thinking and the way it was elaborated by Lacan. We will read two articles by J. Lacan:

    'The Function and Field of Speech and Language in Psychoanalysis', 'The Instance of the Letter in the Unconscious, or Reason Since Freud'.

  • The role of the signifier; Freud and hysterics

    This session we will devote some extra time to the discussion of metaphor and metonymy and the relation of language to Lacanian theory of discourses. Furthermore we will start reading Dora’s case and see how Freud’s historically first patients shaped psychoanalytic theory and Freud’s desire.
