Skiing technology describes skiing equipment - skis, ski boots, bindings and poles - which is of course different for downhill skiing and for cross country skiing (and diferent for classic technique and skating in cross country skiing as well). It also includes ski maintenance and waxing.
Cross-country skiing has two basic techniques - classic technique and skating. Both techniques are based on alternating the kick and the glide phases. Main classic technique and skating techniques are described here. The methodology of cross-country skiing starts with simple and basic skiing skills which are common for both techniques and continues to skills more specific to each of the techniques.
Downhill skiing is a complex acyclic movement skill requiring strong legs, good balance and also some mental skills. We recognize a lot of different turns in downhill skiing which are categorized and described by using different criteria. The methodology of downhill skiing starts with simple and basic skiing skills which are common for all techniques and continues to skills more specific to each of the techniques.
