The topic of this week relates to language again. However, this time in connection with the question how we perceive the speakers of a language, including ourselves.
1) There are two pre-task activities before you actually start with the listening to (watching) the Ted-Talks video with a lecture given by Anna Babel - Who counts a speaker of a language.
- Pre-task activity 1 - matching - vocabulary to their deffinitions
- Pre-task activity 2 - matching - collocatios - beginnings of the sentences to their endings
You need to complete these two pre-task activites before you can open the video and the task related to the information you get from the video. You either get 60% of correct answers in both pre-task activities, or you go through both attempts you get for each of them. Please, try to work with the vocabulary which is taken from the listening so that understanding for you can be easier. Do not just open the attempts,
2) Watch the video with Anne Babel's lecture/presentation: Who counts as a speaker of a language. Do not turn on or turn of the subtitles, try to watch at least twice without the subtitles. While the first and the second watching try to complete the short-answer exercise - complete the text/summary with the missing words you hear in the lecture.
3) After you try to complete the exercise you can turn on the subtitles or follow the transcript which will open after you successfully (60% of correct answers) complete the exercise.
NOTE: To both pre-task activities and to the listening comprehension exercise there are pdf versions so that you can work with paper, if you want to.
4) At the end there are again some questions for you to think about for the speaking lesson.
